Full Motorcycle Licence Training Medway

After we have successfully completed your CBT the fun (and the work!) really starts. The majority of your following training is all practical on-road based focussed toward not only successful completion of your full licence but also tailored to giving you the confidence and skill to enjoy a lifetime of safe motorcycling.

Our courses are based around either a further two, three or four days training after your CBT depending on your previous experience on a motorcycle (two days would be adequate for an already extremely experienced rider, three days would suit somebody with previous experience and four days would be ideal for a novice rider. PLEASE NOTE for pupils on the three or four day courses we also include a further FREE DAY OUT ON ONE OF OUR 125cc MOTORCYCLES after your CBT, this means you can get nice and settled in on a bike and fully up to speed, and more importantly means we can safely get you on a larger motorcycle even sooner giving you maximum time riding the bike you will be taking your test on).

All of your post CBT training will be conducted in a maximum group ratio of 2 pupils to one instructor (this means we always remain within the DSA regulations that restrict approved training schools to two pupils to one instructor as soon as a trainee uses a motorcycle larger than 125cc). As we always remain within these limits we can progress you immediately onto a larger motorcycle at the earliest safe opportunity, in the majority of cases we manage this on the day immediately after CBT! (We won’t keep you chugging around in large groups on 125cc motorcycles unnecessarily unlike some schools we could mention!)

As soon as practical we will start to deal with the Module 1 training exercises, these being 11 exercises carried out on an area of hard standing adjacent to the driving test centre. You need to show the examiner your valid Module 1 pass certificate before he will conduct your Module 2 test.(The Module 2 test is the one where he follows you on his motorcycle on the road. It’s the motorcycling version of the car test).

The Module 1 test puts a lot of emphasis on your ability to ride a motorcycle slowly with good balance and clutch control, luckily we have the largest and closest area to practice this on. (Less than 5 minutes from the test centre.) It’s not by chance that we are located where we are, our training site is ideally located. In fact he CLOSEST to the test centre of any training school. The benefits to you of this are HUGE as you get loads of time to practice the Module 1 elements right up to 10mins before you do it for real.

Once you’re starting to look good for the Module 1 test we start to deal with the Module 2 test. To give you the opportunity to fully familiarise yourself with the road systems you may come across in the Medway towns (there are now only three motorcycle test centres in Kent; Gillingham, Herne Bay and Erith. Gillingham serves Medway, Chatham, Rochester, Isle of Grain, Maidstone, Sittingbourne, Isle of Sheppey, Swale and Gravesend Kent if you live in these or any of the outlaying areas, Gillingham’s the one for you.) We predominantly remain in this area as we believe that prior knowledge of the roads in the area your test will be conducted on can only improve your test day prospects substantially.

Our enviable pass rate is not by chance, we operate the smallest group to instructor ratios, have the largest Module 1 training site closest to the Gillingham test centre of any training school, and on our three and four day courses even give you an extra day for free AND we still manage to deliver this all at a price our competitors can’t match!

Motorcycle Licence Categories

There are 4 categories of motorcycle licence:

        • ‘AM’ Moped Licence
        • ‘A1’ Light (Power) Motorcycle Licence
        • ‘A2’ Medium (Power) Motorcycle Licence
        • ‘A’ Unlimited (Power) Motorcycle Licence

The routes to obtaining these Licences are dependent on age and/or experience and are summarised in the table below.

A-Z Rider Training – Guide To Motorcycle Licence Categories

Once you have successfully completed CBT (Compulsory Basic Training), you can ride a moped (up to 50cc & less than 4kW) unaccompanied on the road with L Plates. You can do so for 2 years before you will need to retake your CBT. If you wish to obtain an ‘AM’ Moped Licence, you must undergo training and take the relevant theory and motorcycle test on a moped (up to 50cc). You can then ride without L Plates and carry a pillion passenger.

Once you have successfully completed CBT (Compulsory Basic Training), you can ride a motorbike up to 125cc (& less than 11kW) with L Plates. You can do so for 2 years before you will need to retake your CBT. If you wish to obtain an ‘A1′ Light Motorcycle Licence, you must undergo training and take the relevant theory and motorcycle test on a 120cc to 125cc machine (& less than 11kW). You can then ride without L Plates and carry a pillion passenger.

If you wish to obtain an ‘A2′ Medium Motorcycle Licence, you must have a valid CBT certificate you must undergo training and take the relevant theory and motorcycle test on a motorcycle greater than 395cc (and between 25 – 35 kW). After which you can ride any motorbike but it must be restricted to 35 kW.

If you wish to obtain a Category ‘A’ Full Unlimited Motorcycle Licence, which entitles you to ride an unlimited size motorcycle of unlimited power output, you must have held an ‘A1’ Full Licence for a minimum of 2 years and retake your module 1 and module 2 tests on a motorcycle of at least 595cc and 40kw or more (you DO NOT need to have a valid CBT certificate or theory test certificate) If successful you can immediately ride any motorcycle with no restriction on size and power.

If you wish to obtain a Category ‘A’ Full Unlimited Motorcycle Licence, allowing you immediate access to any motorcycle with no limit on size or power output, you must have a valid CBT and theory test certificate, undergo training, and take the motorcycle test on a motorcycle of at least 595cc and 40kw or more. If successful you can ride any motorcycle available. (We like the big powerful ones best!)
