The Way We Work

A-Z Rider Training aim to make your CBT course a fun day as well as a practical day. We supply fully insured mopeds/bikes so you don’t need to pay an additional crash damage waiver. We can offer free loan of a safety helmet, waterproofs and gloves. You’re welcome to use your own bike provided it taxed, insured, MOT’d, has mirrors, is roadworthy and displays L-plates. We will need to see both parts of your provisional licence.

A-Z Rider Training – Guide To Motorcycle Licence Categories

Once you have successfully completed CBT (Compulsory Basic Training), you can ride a moped (up to 50cc & less than 4kW) unaccompanied on the road with L Plates. You can do so for 2 years before you will need to retake your CBT. If you wish to obtain an ‘AM’ Moped Licence, you must undergo training and take the relevant theory and motorcycle test on a moped (up to 50cc). You can then ride without L Plates and carry a pillion passenger.

Once you have successfully completed CBT (Compulsory Basic Training), you can ride a motorbike up to 125cc (& less than 11kW) with L Plates. You can do so for 2 years before you will need to retake your CBT. If you wish to obtain an ‘A1′ Light Motorcycle Licence, you must undergo training and take the relevant theory and motorcycle test on a 120cc to 125cc machine (& less than 11kW). You can then ride without L Plates and carry a pillion passenger.

If you wish to obtain an ‘A2′ Medium Motorcycle Licence, you must have a valid CBT certificate you must undergo training and take the relevant theory and motorcycle test on a motorcycle greater than 395cc (and between 25 – 35 kW). After which you can ride any motorbike but it must be restricted to 35 kW.

If you wish to obtain a Category ‘A’ Full Unlimited Motorcycle Licence, which entitles you to ride an unlimited size motorcycle of unlimited power output, you must have held an ‘A1’ Full Licence for a minimum of 2 years and retake your module 1 and module 2 tests on a motorcycle of at least 595cc and 40kw or more (you DO NOT need to have a valid CBT certificate or theory test certificate) If successful you can immediately ride any motorcycle with no restriction on size and power.

If you wish to obtain a CategoryA’ Full Unlimited Motorcycle Licence, allowing you immediate access to any motorcycle with no limit on size or power output, you must have a valid CBT and theory test certificate, undergo training, and take the motorcycle test on a motorcycle of at least 595cc and 40kw or more. If successful you can ride any motorcycle available. (We like the big powerful ones best!)
